A year later, I saw Van again.
Not at a wedding.
At a park.
She was pushing a stroller.
Beside her stood a man holding her hand.
They looked peaceful.
She saw me.
For a moment, our eyes met.
There was no anger there.
Just closure.
She nodded politely.
I nodded back.
And I finally understood something I should have learned years ago:
Love cannot be forced by gratitude.
Marriage cannot survive without honesty.
And pride can quietly destroy everything you think you’re protecting.
On my wedding day, I thought my ex came to embarrass me.
But she didn’t.
She came to free herself completely.
And in doing so—
she exposed the truth I had spent years avoiding.
Sometimes, the person you underestimate…
is the one who teaches you the most.
The End.
