Mark Wahlberg, one of few who successfully transitioned from music to acting, sold his custom-built California mansion and moved to Nevada to provide a different environment for his family.
From relocating his family to lobbying for a bill aimed at creating an estimated 16,000 jobs in Nevada, the successful actor’s focus on making a difference continues to shine.
Family First
The dedication to his family comes after a troubled childhood, as struggles and addiction led to a jail sentence at 16. But everything changed after he met the former Victoria’s Secret model, Rhea Durham in New York in 2001.
By then, he had already found success in music before transitioning into acting, but what success meant to him got new meaning as their relationship progressed and the pair welcomed their first two kids before they wed in 2009.
“I owe a lot to my wife. She has helped me become the man that I am and created a beautiful life for me and our children,” he once said. “I also knew that she loved me for who I am and that she was someone I could trust. Until I met her, I wasn’t ready to have a family.”
He’s a big-time actor, but his ultimate goal is to succeed as a father. Wahlberg has been known to wake up at 02:30 a.m. to spend more time with his wife and a total of four kids, Brendan, Grace, Ella, and Michael.
Wanting the best environment for his children to thrive also prompted the actor to relocate his family.
