PART 2 – A Secret From Fifteen Years Earlier

Emily had never met Richard Lawson.

At least… not officially.

Fifteen years earlier, during a devastating hurricane that destroyed an American coastal town, Lieutenant Emily Carter had led one of the most dangerous rescue missions of her career.

Entire neighborhoods had disappeared underwater.

Families were trapped on rooftops.

Helicopters flew nonstop through violent winds.

That night, Emily received one final distress signal.

A flooded mansion.

Only one child remained inside.

Ignoring direct orders to retreat because of worsening weather, Emily and her rescue team flew straight into the storm.

The helicopter barely remained airborne.

After smashing through rain and flying debris, Emily reached the house.

She carried an unconscious eight-year-old boy through chest-deep floodwater and lifted him into the helicopter seconds before the building collapsed.

She never asked who he was.

She simply returned to duty.
