Part 1: Doubt and Unease
On what was supposed to be a joyful wedding night, everything suddenly felt strange and unsettling. I looked at my husband’s face and noticed a confusing mix of emotions—first surprise, then a forced smile, followed by a light laugh that didn’t feel natural. He began explaining that he and his friend Benson had been searching for me along with a hunter who lived nearby. According to him, they were all worried when they couldn’t find me.
Although his words sounded reassuring, something didn’t sit right with me. I had never heard about this “hunter friend” before, and I didn’t understand why anyone would live so deep in such an isolated place. The forest felt overwhelming and unfamiliar, and fear started to grow inside me. I tried to remain calm and suggested that we leave immediately, but he insisted that we needed to meet his friend and collect some meat they had arranged to get.
His tone was calm, yet there was a hidden pressure in his insistence. He tried to comfort me, telling me I should have called out instead of running away earlier. I nodded, pretending to agree, but deep down, I felt increasingly uneasy and unsure of his intentions.
