My Wife Left Me with Nothing and Ran off to Her Lover – Karma Caught up with Her Just a Month Later
So it was official now.
“And?” I asked, my voice flat.
“And the investment has collapsed. The funds are gone. The property used as collateral is now subject to seizure.”
I blinked, not fully understanding.
“What property?”
“The residential property listed under her name.”
The house.
My heart began to pound, but not in the way it had a month ago when she said she wanted a divorce. This felt different. Quieter. Steadier.
“There must be some mistake.”
“There is no mistake,” Daniel replied. “She listed the home as sole collateral. However, during our review, we discovered your name is still tied to a portion of the original mortgage agreement. That complicates matters.”
I leaned against the porch railing, staring out at the quiet street.
“We finalized the divorce. She took the house.”
“Yes, but the refinancing process appears to have been incomplete. Legally, you still hold partial interest.”
I let out a slow breath. “So what does that mean?”
“It means you have the option to contest the seizure or negotiate a buyback under adjusted terms. Given the circumstances, you would be in a favorable position.”
Favorable position.
For 12 years, I had never been in a favorable position. I had worked. Sacrificed. Given.
Now, suddenly, the ground had shifted.
“I need time to think.”
“Of course,” Daniel answered. “But I would advise acting quickly.”
When I hung up, I stood there for a long moment, letting it sink in.
Karma.
I did not believe in it before. I believed in hard work. In endurance. In swallowing pain and pushing forward.
But this felt like something else.
That evening, my phone rang again.
This time, it was Hailey.
I stared at her name on the screen.
For a second, I considered ignoring it the way she had ignored us for a month.
But against my better instinct, I answered.
“Tyler,” she said, her voice shaky.
It was the first time she had called in weeks.
“What is it?” I asked calmly.
