Silence.
The kind that changes everything.
I sat down slowly beside her.

“Why didn’t you tell me?” I asked.
“She didn’t want to ruin your life,” she said. “She thought you had moved on.”
I shook my head.
“I never did,” I whispered.
She nodded.
“I know,” she said. “That’s why I came.”
I looked at the bag of food beside her.
Then back at her.
“You came for help,” I said.
“No,” she replied softly. “I came to find you.”
I closed my eyes for a second.
Because suddenly, that small moment from the night before wasn’t small anymore.
It was everything.
“Where is he?” I asked.
She smiled faintly.
“At school,” she said. “He likes math. Just like you.”
I let out a breath I didn’t realize I had been holding.
“Take me to him,” I said.
She nodded.
And as we stood up together, I realized something I hadn’t understood before.
Sometimes, the past doesn’t come back loudly.
Sometimes, it shows up quietly… asking for leftovers.
And leaves behind a life you didn’t know was still waiting for you.
