Tears I had held back for years finally stung my eyes.
“I thought you chose them,” I whispered. “I thought you chose the money.”
“Never,” Adrian said fiercely. “I chose you. I’ve always chosen you.”
He turned slightly, finally acknowledging the rest of the room — and my husband.
“Caleb Rowan,” he said coldly. “Your acquisition is canceled. Effective immediately. Your position is terminated. And if I ever hear that you’ve disrespected this woman again… I will destroy what’s left of you.”
Caleb’s mouth opened, but no words came out.
Adrian looked back at me, his expression softening instantly.
“Come with me,” he said. “There’s thirty years of lost time I need to make up for. Starting tonight.”
I looked at Caleb one last time — the man who had spent years making me feel small, worthless, invisible.
Then I placed my hand in Adrian’s.
As we walked out of the ballroom together, I heard the whispers explode behind us.
But for the first time in twelve years, I wasn’t walking in the back.
I was walking beside the man who had never stopped loving me.
And I was finally, truly seen.
