Lucas placed his two small hands on Rafael’s knees and closed his eyes.

— God, if there is still a path inside him, show it. Not because of money. Because nobody deserves to live trapped inside their own sadness.

The silence grew heavy.

Then Rafael felt something.

First, a strange warmth rising up his shin. Then a slight tingling, like a mild electric shock. He held his breath.

— What did you do? — he whispered.

Camila pulled Lucas by the arm, terrified.

— Son, stop now!

But Rafael was looking down. A toe on his right foot moved.

Barely. Almost nothing.

But it moved.

— No… — he said, his voice breaking. — It can’t be.

At that instant, Patrícia appeared on the balcony with Marcelo and Dona Lúcia. Seeing Lucas kneeling and Rafael crying, she shouted:

— Get that boy away from him! That woman brought her son here to scam my brother!

Rafael tried to answer, but something else happened. His right leg trembled. Visibly.

The entire garden froze.

And Patrícia, instead of being moved, grabbed her phone and said:

— I knew it. This is staged. Call the police before these people steal everything from our family.

Rafael looked at his own sister and understood, with horror, that the miracle had not even begun yet… and the war had already been set in motion.

PART 2

The next morning, the Monteiro mansion became a battlefield.

The video Patrícia had recorded spread among relatives, lawyers, and employees. In it, Lucas appeared kneeling before Rafael, Camila crying, and Patrícia’s voice in the background calling them both opportunists. Within hours, the matter was already circulating through the family’s WhatsApp groups: “Cleaning woman tries to deceive paraplegic businessman,” “Boy puts on a show to steal inheritance,” “Rafael has lost his mind for good.”

But Rafael had not lost his mind.

He had felt his leg.

At the private clinic, the doctors ran exams, tests, and questions. The neurologist frowned several times, unable to explain it.

— There is no such thing as complete recovery overnight — he said. — But there is neuromuscular response that was not present before.

— In plain language, doctor — Rafael asked.

— Something has changed.

Rafael closed his eyes. That sentence was worth more than any contract he had ever signed.

When he returned home, he found Camila at the gate, with a backpack on her shoulder and Lucas holding onto her waist. The security guard didn’t want to let them in.

— I came to apologize and say I’m not coming back anymore — Camila said, without looking Rafael in the eyes. — Your sister said she’s going to report me. I don’t want trouble. I just want to work and take care of my son.

— You’re not leaving — Rafael answered.

— Mr. Rafael, I’m poor, but I’m not an opportunist.

— I know.

Patrícia came down the stairs at that moment, elegant as always, expensive perfume and a cruel smile.

— Rafael, don’t humiliate yourself. That woman saw your weakness. The boy touched you and now you think you received a divine sign? For God’s sake.

Lucas hid behind his mother.

Rafael stared at his sister.

— Why are you so afraid of me getting better?

The question hit Patrícia hard.

— Afraid? I’m protecting the family.

— Or protecting the papers you wanted me to sign?

The silence changed color.
