Then he slowly walked toward me.
“I served with your husband,” he said softly.
His voice shook a little, like it was carrying memories that were too heavy to hold.
Before I could say anything, he reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a small metal box. It was worn and scratched, like it had been carried around for decades.
“He told me,” the man said, placing it gently in my hands, “that if anything ever happened to him… I should make sure you received this.”
My fingers trembled as I opened the lid.
