Pelé was born as Edson Arantes do Nascimento on October 23, 1940, in the city of Três Corações, Brazil. He grew up in a humble family and developed a passion for football at a very young age. Because his family could not afford a real football, he often played with a sock stuffed with paper or a grapefruit.
At the age of 15, Pelé joined the football club Santos FC and quickly became one of the best young players in the world. Just one year later, he was selected for the Brazil National Football Team.
Pelé became a global superstar after helping Brazil win the 1958 FIFA World Cup at only 17 years old. He later won two more World Cups in 1962 and 1970, becoming the only player in history to win three FIFA World Cups.
