He stepped back in shock.
“What?”
“I went to the hospital. The doctor asked who prepares my food. You’ve been forcing me to eat things I don’t want for years. And now I find these notes!”
George sank into a chair. His eyes filled with tears.
“I knew this conversation would happen one day.”
“Then tell me the truth!”
He remained silent for a long time.
Finally, he spoke.
“Seven years ago, after your first medical examination, the doctor called me aside.”
I froze.
“What examination?”
“Back when you were hospitalized because you were feeling extremely weak. Do you remember?”
I nodded.
“Yes, I remember.”
“The doctor suspected that you might have a problem regulating your blood sugar. But the diagnosis wasn’t confirmed yet. He recommended changing your diet and having additional tests.”
“Then why didn’t you tell me?”
George lowered his head.
“Because you were already going through such a difficult time. Your brother had just died. I thought I’d change our meals first and explain everything later.”
