Puis June descendit les marches et s’agenouilla à côté de moi. Elle glissa entre mes mains une décision de justice encadrée.
« On a déposé les demandes il y a des mois », dit-elle. « Elles ont été acceptées la semaine dernière. »
Je n’arrivais pas à lire les mots. Mes mains tremblaient trop fort.

June stood up and hugged me. The whole room has risen. I don't remember going out.

Three weeks later, I was back above the hardware store, hanging two frames on the wall near the window. The gas station ticket went to the left. The adoption papers went to the right. I stayed here for a long time, looking at them both.
