Ben lowered his head.
I took their photograph.
At that exact moment, my phone vibrated.
A message had arrived from an unknown number.
“Sarah, please stay calm. Mike must never find out what we did in his bedroom. If he finds out, we’ll lose everything.”
My heart began pounding.
There was a photograph attached to the message.
I opened it.
It was our bedroom.
Our bed.
And the man sitting on the edge of the bed was Daniel.
But the most terrifying detail was the woman’s hand visible in the left corner of the photograph.
On her finger was my wedding ring.
My ring.
I was still trying to understand how that was possible when Mike suddenly turned toward me.
“Sarah, what’s wrong? Why are you so pale?”
“Nothing,” I barely managed to answer.
He smiled.
“Then give me your phone. Let me see what’s frightened you so much.”
