My seven-year-old granddaughter found a diamond ring at the grocery store and gave it back to its rightful owner. The following morning, a stranger appeared at our front door and declared, “There’s something you need to see. And you need to see it right now!”

Harper immediately ran straight over to her before I could even stop her.

“Ma’am, is this yours?” Harper asked, holding out her small hand.

The woman froze instantly, dropped to her knees on the polished floor, and clutched the gold ring against her chest.

“Thank you,” the woman sobbed, weeping openly. “Oh my God, thank you so much!”

She looked up at Harper’s face and studied her features in complete shock, almost as if she were staring directly at a ghost.

“Was it your wedding ring, dear?” I asked gently as I walked up beside them.

“No, it’s much more complicated than that,” she replied softly. “You really saved my life today.”

Before she could say another word, her phone rang loudly in her purse. She glanced down at the caller ID on the screen, went completely pale, and hurried outside into the parking lot without another word. I never even got her name.
