The broken screen flashed in the dark.
3%.
For a few seconds, Hannah didn't understand what she was seeing.
His mind was engulfed in fog.
The body hurt.
The chest still looked trapped under invisible pressure.
But there was something stronger than fear.
Confusion.
Because she was alive.
And it was inside a coffin.
He tried to scream.
Nothing.
His throat barely produced a faint sound.
The air was heavy.
Wet.
Scarce.
Next to him, two small bodies remained motionless.
“Mason...
His voice came out like a broken whisper.
“Wyatt...
He got no answer.
The tears began to fall without him being able to stop them.
I couldn't accept what was happening.
His children had been running through the garden a few hours earlier.
They had argued who would receive the last slice of cake.
Wyatt had hidden a gift behind her back because she wanted to surprise her.
Mason had said:
“Mom, when I’m famous, I’ll buy you a huge house.”
And now they were there.
In the dark.
With her.
The phone screen lit up again.
A message.
Hannah's eyesight was slowly focused.
It was a scheduled notification.
A message she had prepared herself weeks ago.
For an emergency.
With trembling hands, he tried to unlock it.
The phone dropped several times against the inside of the coffin.
Every move cost him a huge amount of energy.
Finally the message appeared.
“If you get this and something happened to me, check the protected folder.”
Hannah frowned.
She had forgotten that folder.
I created it months ago.
After I started to suspect that something was not right.
It all started with little things.
Kenneth being late.
Her mother Beatrice asking strange questions about her bank accounts.
Documents that disappeared.
Conversations that ended when she entered a room.
Hannah never wanted to believe it.
Because they were her husband.
Because it was his mother.
Because accepting the truth meant admitting that the two people closest to it could be hurting her.
But something inside of her had been afraid.
And that fear had saved her.
With the few forces he had, he opened the folder.
There were three files.
The first was an audio recording.
He pressed to reproduce.
Kenneth’s voice filled the small space.
After this, everything will be clean.
Hannah felt her heart stop.
Another voice answered.
Beatrice.
Are you sure of the dose?
Silence.
Then Kenneth:
