I stopped walking.
Lucía touched my elbow.
"Are you okay?"
I looked at the couple.
Then at the table.
For so long, I'd imagined that corner of the restaurant as permanently stained by what had happened.
But it wasn't.
The room had continued living.
People had celebrated birthdays there.
Accepted marriage proposals.
Reunited with friends.
Shared meals.
My humiliation had not become the restaurant's identity.
And it didn't have to remain mine.
Andrés greeted us warmly.
Luis was there too, along with several members of the staff.
They had prepared a small dinner in a private room.
Nothing extravagant.
Just good food, laughter, and the kind of kindness that asks for nothing in return.
Halfway through the meal, Andrés stood.
"I'd like to say something."
I felt my cheeks warm.
He smiled.
"When we work in hospitality, we're trained to make guests comfortable. But that night reminded us that sometimes our responsibility is to make someone safe."
