Every Friday, Robert took Emily somewhere in her car.
Every time I asked them where they were going, they both gave me the same answer.
“We only have a few things to do.
At first, I didn't care.
But one afternoon I noticed that Emily, after returning home, locked herself in her room and began to cry.
When I asked him what had happened, he told me something that deeply troubled me.
“Mom, please don’t ask Dad anything.
Those words didn't leave me alone.
On another occasion, I accidentally heard a conversation between them in the garage.
“Dad, I don’t want to do this anymore,” Emily said.
“You promised,” Robert replied. If we stop now, everything we've done will have been in vain.
“But Mom is going to find out someday.
“No, if you comply with our agreement.
When I walked into the garage, they both kept quiet.
