As emotions ran high, Monday reached for his small travel bag and began packing.
“Where are you going?” Chinelo asked, panic rising within her.
“I need space,” he replied quietly. “I need time to understand everything.”
Just as he was about to leave, he paused. Something weighed heavily on his mind.
“There’s something I didn’t tell you,” he said, pulling out a folded document. “I wanted it to be a surprise.”
It was an employment letter. After months of searching, Monday had finally secured a job as a senior driver with a reputable construction company. The salary was enough to change their situation completely.
“I was coming home to share good news,” he continued. “We could have started fresh.”
Chinelo’s heart sank. The timing of everything felt painfully ironic. Both of them had been fighting for their future—but in different ways, and without knowing the other’s efforts.
The room, once filled with tension, now carried a different weight: regret.
