Before either of them could say more, a firm knock sounded at the door.

Standing outside was Mama Jibril, the landlord’s wife. Her expression was serious, and her presence immediately drew attention from neighbors nearby.

“I need to speak with you,” she said, her voice calm but direct.

She held something in her hand—a small object that hinted at a deeper issue. Without raising her voice or creating a scene, she asked a question that left both Chinelo and Monday frozen.

“There are things we need to clarify,” she said.

Chinelo instinctively placed her hand on her stomach, her thoughts racing. Monday looked at her, confusion and concern replacing his earlier anger.
