He ๐ค๐ข๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ž๐ 8 children โ€” then called it a โ€œblessed dayโ€ with them on Facebook. Ages 3 to 11. Seven were his own. One a cousin. The mothers? Still ALIVE. They identified every little ๐—ฏ๐—ผ๐—ฑ๐˜†. One child jumped off the roof to escape. Survived with broken legs.

SHREVEPORT, La. โ€“ Eight children. Seven of them his own. One a cousin. All dead before the sun came up. Their names are no longer just a police report. Their mothers โ€“ still alive, still in hospital beds โ€“ have identified every single one.

The Caddo Parish Coronerโ€™s Office released the list Sunday night. Jayla Elkins, 3. Shayla Elkins, 5. Kayla Pew, 6. Leila Pew, 7. Marquaden Pew, 10. Sariah Snow, 11. Cadarian Snow, 6. Brilan Snow, 5. Three boys, five girls. The youngest still wearing pull-ups. The oldest barely old enough to babysit.

โ€œSeven juvenile siblings and a cousin,โ€ the coronerโ€™s office said. โ€œThe children were identified by their mothers.โ€

Those mothers โ€“ two women shot by the same man who killed their children โ€“ are both alive. One remains in critical condition after being shot in the face. The other is also hospitalized but stable. The family asked the public to stop the social media chatter. โ€œLeave the speculation alone,โ€ a community leader pleaded. โ€œYou do not know everything. Let them grieve.โ€

The shooter was 50-year-old Shamar Elkins. He was the father of seven of the dead children. The eighth victim was a cousin. Police say Elkins started his rampage around 5:55 a.m. Sunday at a home on West 79th Street in the Cedar Grove neighborhood. A caller told dispatch she was on top of a roof. The suspect was inside. A male had been shot.

Three minutes later: a second call. The suspect was a relative. One minute after that: the caller said Elkins had shot everyone inside.

At 6:03 a.m., officers arrived. What they found would become the worst mass killing of children in Shreveportโ€™s modern history. Eight bodies. Seven inside. One on the roof โ€“ shot while trying to escape.

But here is what the first reports missed. There was a ninth child in that house. A 13-year-old. When Elkins started executing children, that teenager climbed out a window onto the garage roof. Then jumped. Broken bones in both legs โ€“ but alive.

โ€œThat child is the only survivor out of the children,โ€ police confirmed. โ€œJumped off the roof, broke a few bones, but is expected to survive.โ€

The 13-year-old is in stable condition.

Before the first call even ended, Elkins had already moved to a second location. At 6:07 a.m., a woman on Harrison Street called 911. โ€œMy boyfriend shot me. He took my three children and fled.โ€ That woman was Christina Snow. She is the mother of three of the dead children. She was shot but survived. Police later confirmed the second shooting victim was Sheniqua Elkins โ€“ the suspectโ€™s wife and stepmother to Snowโ€™s children. She was also shot. Also alive.
