My 13-Year-Old Daughter Returned From Summer Camp—Then the Director Said She Couldn’t Come Back

That she was allowed to enjoy what someone had willingly given her without feeling guilty about the cost.

That day taught me something I will never forget:

Generosity isn’t truly generous if it teaches a child to disappear.

We shouldn’t raise children to believe their worth is measured by how little they need, how much they sacrifice, or how easy they are to provide for.

Teach them to be kind.

Teach them to give.

But also teach them that their own happiness matters.

Because sometimes, the bravest thing a child can learn isn’t how to give something away.

It’s learning that they are worthy of keeping something for themselves.
