“It’s been three full years since the accident,” I pointed out coldly.
“I know,” Brandon admitted, looking down at his polished shoes. “We actually sent two formal letters through a law firm to locate any relatives.”
My mind immediately jumped to my messy kitchen drawer full of unopened official envelopes that I had been too terrified to read.
“What do you people actually want from us now?” I demanded.
“My father is actively dying,” Brandon revealed quietly. “The hospital doctors give him only a few weeks left.”
“I’m sorry to hear that,” I said, though in reality I didn’t care about a man who had abandoned his own daughter.
“Natalie and I want Harper to meet him before he passes away,” Brandon explained.
“And what does your father say about that?” I asked.
“He insists he doesn’t want to see her,” Brandon replied honestly.
“Then why did you come marching up to my house?” I snapped.
