My seven-year-old granddaughter found a diamond ring at the grocery store and gave it back to its rightful owner. The following morning, a stranger appeared at our front door and declared, “There’s something you need to see. And you need to see it right now!”

Paige and my beloved son Ryan had died together in a terrible car accident three years ago. Harper was only four years old when it happened.

For a long moment, all I could do was stare silently at that old photograph. I certainly hadn’t expected to see Paige’s face brought to my doorstep by a complete stranger, much less sitting right beside a woman wearing that exact diamond ring.

I slowly unlatched the chain and opened the door all the way.

“Where did you get this photo?” I asked sternly.

“That’s our late mother, Evelyn,” Brandon explained softly. “And that young girl beside her is my sister Paige.”

“Paige never had a brother,” I said flatly, shaking my head.

“She never told you about us?” he asked, looking surprised.

“She only said she didn’t talk to her father,” I replied quickly. “That’s all she ever shared about her past.”
