Part 2: My millionaire husband left me nothing in his will after 48 years of marriage except a note with an address — when I arrived there, what I saw made me fall to my knees.

Twenty-eight million dollars.

The number still seemed impossible.

There were properties in three states.

Investment accounts.

Commercial buildings.

Shares in companies I had barely heard Thomas mention.

The trust documents confirmed that I was the sole beneficiary, with an independent professional trustee responsible for administering the assets according to its terms.

Thomas had arranged everything carefully.

Perhaps too carefully.

I picked up his handwritten letter again.

There were three pages I hadn't completely read.

I had stopped when Nathan revealed the birth certificate.

Now I forced myself to continue.

"My darling Margaret,

I know there are things about my life I should have told you.

I kept telling myself that silence was a form of protection.

But sometimes silence is simply fear dressed up as kindness."

I stopped reading.

Tears blurred the words.

Then I continued.

"I made mistakes when I was younger. Mistakes that cannot be undone. I hope one day you can understand that loving you was never one of them.
