My brother’s fiancée asked my grandmother to bake an enormous wedding cake, then refused to pay her for it. So I decided to give the bride a wedding gift she would never forget.

Finally, he spoke.

“Enough, Ashley.”

His voice was quiet, but there was something unmistakably final about it.

He walked directly toward me, and my stomach tightened. I thought he was about to order me to return the cake and apologize for disrupting his reception.

Ashley apparently believed the same thing.

“Thank you!” she exclaimed. “At least somebody here has some common sense!”

Daniel stopped beside my chair and extended his hand.

“Give me that.”

I looked down at the spoon I was holding.

“Daniel?”

“The spoon,” he repeated.

I hesitated before placing it in his hand.

Then he turned toward Grandma’s beautiful four-tier cake.

Ashley smiled triumphantly and began smoothing her wedding dress, apparently convinced that her husband was finally taking control of the situation.

But when I saw the expression on Daniel’s face, I realized he wasn’t about to do what either of us expected.

He stepped closer to the cake, raised the spoon, and made a decision that would leave every guest in that barn speechless.
