My brother’s fiancée asked my grandmother to bake an enormous wedding cake, then refused to pay her for it. So I decided to give the bride a wedding gift she would never forget.

Daniel placed the spoon on the cart and walked across the room. Every guest watched as he approached Grandma, knelt beside her chair in his wedding suit, and gently took both her hands.

“Thank you for making this,” he said, his voice trembling. “I know how much time and effort you put into it.”Grandma blinked rapidly.

“Oh, sweetheart, you don’t have to make such a fuss.”

“Yes, I do. And I’m sorry Ashley treated you so badly.”

Tears spilled down Grandma’s cheeks.

“Please don’t be upset, Daniel. It’s your wedding day. I never wanted to cause trouble.”

“You haven’t caused anything,” he replied firmly. “You did absolutely nothing wrong.”

I felt my own eyes burning as I watched him comfort her. Whatever else happened that evening, at least Grandma finally knew her grandson understood what she’d endured.

Then Daniel said something that made my heart nearly stop.
